RICHMOND, Va. – It turns out that the Virginia Commonwealth University Field Hockey team wasn't just winning on the field this season. The Rams were winning in the classroom as well.

Thirteen Rams were named to the 2010 Gladiator by SGI/NFHCA Division I National Academic Squad, released earlier this week. The National Academic Squad recognizes those student-athletes who have achieved a cumulative GPA of 3.30 or higher through the first semester of the 2010-11 academic year.
Graduating senior Flore van Dessel highlighted VCU's academic excellence, earning a spot on the NFHCA squad for the fourth consecutive year. She was joined by sophomores Megan Botteri, Autumn Dea, Arialle Hess, Haley McBee and Melanie Marotta, as well as freshmen Stephanie DeMasi, Meredith McNelis, Kayla Mueller, Kelsey O'Brien, Kelsey Powell, Emilie Soares and Rymme van Dessel.
VCU was 13-7 in 2010 and earned a bid to the Colonial Athletic Association Tournament. Head Coach Kelly McQuade was named the CAA's Coach of the Year.
