TWO RAMS COLLECT ALL-REGION PRAISE

RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University Senior Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, Netherlands) and sophomore Kelsey Scherrer (Chesapeake, Va.) were named to the 2010 Longstreth/NFHCA Division I All-South Region Second Team Thursday.

Scherrer and van Dessel, who also garnered First Team All-Colonial Athletic Association honors, led VCU to a 13-7 record and a berth in the CAA Tournament for the first time since 2003. The Rams' 13 victories were the second-most in school history and the program's most since 1992.

It's the second straight year that Scherrer has been named to the All-South Region Second Team. In 2010, the 5-1 forward led the Rams in goals (15), assists (8) and points (38). Her 38 points rank third in VCU single-season history and the 15 goals are the fourth-most by a Ram in one year. Seven of Scherrer's goals this season were game-winners. Scherrer's 26 goals in two seasons rank sixth in school history.

van Dessel capped her illustrious VCU career with an 11-goal, four-assist effort in 2010. A three-time All-CAA midfielder, van Dessel scored 36 goals in her four-year career, the second-most in school history. Additionally, her 83 career points rank third all-time.
