POWER OF THREE: HAT TRICK NETS SOARES CAA HONOR
RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman
Emilie Soares
(Santa Clara, Calif.) was named Colonial Athletic
Association Rookie of the Week on Tuesday.
Soares recorded her first career hat trick, scoring three goals in
VCU's 4-0 victory over Vermont on Sunday, Sept. 19 at Cary Street
Field.
The 5-5 midfielder and forward has four goals and an assist this season and is tied with senior Marle van Dessel (Oisterwijk, Netherlands) and sophomore Kelsey Scherrer (Chesapeake, Va.) for the team lead in points with nine. Soares is the first VCU player to earn a CAA Weekly Award this season.
Soares and the Rams (5-3), who received 27 votes this week in
the Kookaburra/NFHCA National Coaches Poll, return to action on
Friday, Sept. 24 when they kick off CAA play against Delaware in
Newark, Del. at 7 p.m.
