RICHMOND – Three members of the VCU Baseball team earned honors on Wednesday afternoon, as seniors Logan Farrar, Brooks Vial, and Sam Donko were all named to the ABCA/Rawlings Division I East All-Region First Team team as announced by the organization.
Farrar, an outfielder, put together arguably his best season in Black & Gold in 2017, batting a career-best .365 playing in 55 of 57 games. He added 17 doubles, eight home runs, and 32 RBI, finishing with a team-best 125 total bases. He slugged .543, and scored 50 runs throughout his senior campaign. Those stats led him to not only the A-10 Player of the Year honor, but was also named A-10 First Team All-Conference.
Vial stepped up as Mr. Consistency for the Rams, going 9-4 on the season with a 2.82 ERA, including a 7-0 mark in Atlantic 10 games. In 16 appearances, he pumped out a team-high 92.2 innings, striking out a team-high 84 batters. In the classroom, he was also awarded the A-10 Postgraduate Scholarship by the Atlantic 10 earlier this spring.
Donko has stayed elite over his two years in Black and Gold, as he put up 14 saves this season, a league high. Earlier this season, he broke the program's all-time saves record that was set in 1993. This season, he finished the season with a 2.81 ERA and a 3-3 record in 25 appearances. He only walked nine batters over 51 innings of work, striking out 57.
