RICHMOND, Va. – Last night was supposed to be the last night of "March Madness" with the crowning of the Division I Men's Basketball national champion, but VCU sophomore infielder Joey Cujas had other ideas.
On Tuesday, Cujas was named the CAA Player of the Week by College Sports Madness, for his performance over the last week, which included games in both March and April.
The Midlothian, Va., native receives the award on the heels of a solid week at the plate and defensively as the Rams picked up four-straight victories, including a series sweep over Northeastern. Throughout the week Cujas roped 10 hits in 17 plate appearances (.588 average), drove in a team-leading eight RBI and hit his first home run of the 2012 campaign. Defensively the sophomore was just as good, recording a perfect fielding percentage behind 10 putouts and seven assists.
Cujas was named CAA Co-Player of the Week by the league office on Monday.
The Rams return to the friendly confines of The Diamond this Wednesday, for the first game of a five-game home stand. VCU will take on the Flames of Liberty University, at 6 p.m.
