RICHMOND, Va. – Virginia Commonwealth University freshman outfielder Bill Cullen on Monday was named Colonial Athletic Association Baseball Rookie of the Week after batting .500 and extending his career-long hitting streak to 10 games.
Cullen, who earns his second CAA Rookie of the Week honor of the season, went 8-for-16 with a team-best six RBI, two doubles, three runs and three walks in four games against Richmond and Hofstra. He led the Rams with seven hits and three RBI in VCU's three-game series against the Pride.
The Colonial Heights, Va., native collected a hit in all four games last week, including a 4-for-5 outing with a double, run and RBI in the opening game of the Hofstra series.
Cullen has been one of VCU's most consistent hitters of late, batting .438 with 12 RBI, eight doubles and a triple since April 22.
VCU travels to Liberty on Tuesday, May 17 at 3 p.m., for its final mid-week matchup. The Rams conclude the regular season with a three-game series at UNC Wilmington May 19-21.
