RICHMOND, Va. – The Virginia Commonwealth University baseball team opens its annual Black & Gold World Series with three games this weekend. First pitch for game one is set for Friday at 5 p.m., at The Diamond. The five-game series wraps up the Rams' fall practice schedule.
Game two is set for Saturday, Nov. 6 at 2 p.m., with game three on Sunday, Nov. 7 at 5 p.m. The final two games of the series will be held Wednesday, Nov. 10 and Friday, Nov. 12. Game times will be announced in the coming days.
The Black team is highlighted by returning position players Nick Kime (.247, 6 2B, 10 RBI), Paul Nice (.281, 2 HR, 30 RBI), Michael Cheatham (.230, 1 HR, 14 RBI) and Ryan Caldwell. The rest of the position players for the Black squad include newcomers Chris Ayers, Bill Cullen, Kyle Sutherland and Joey Cujas.
On the mound, the Black team will consist of veteran pitchers Seth Cutler-Voltz (8-4, 3.47 ERA), Jonathan Watson (4-2, 2.51 ERA), Ryan Farrar (4-5, 8.14 ERA), Blake Hauser (4-4, 7.07 ERA) and Seth Green (1-0, 5.40 ERA) as well as newcomer David Benson.
The roster for the Gold team features Brent Mikionis (.343, 11 HR, 54 RBI), Taylor Perkins (.295, 2 HR, 31 RBI), John Lenherr (.289, 2 HR, 35 RBI), Michael Caddell and Robert Malan. The remaining position players are Nick Abramson, Taylor Buran and Landon Prentiss.
The pitching staff or the Gold squad includes returners Kyle Haynes (3-3, 5.60 ERA), Kyle Pelchy (2-0, 4.65 ERA), and Michael Graham (4-4, 7.86 ERA) with newcomers Ryan Morrison, Chris Shaklee and Dylan Auker rounding out the team.
