Kyleigh Gerlach joined the VCU Volleyball staff in February of 2013, following Rams' Coach Jody Rogers from the University of Indianapolis.
Gerlach spent three successful seasons at UIndy, and for her efforts, she was named one of the American Volleyball Coaches Association's (AVCA) top "Thirty Under 30" assistant coaches in March of 2013.
As a former All-America libero for Rogers, Gerlach works mainly
with the defensive specialists. She also helps in the
planning and execution of practices, as well as assisting in
scouting and recruiting.
In 2012, the Greyhounds had the best finish in school history as they returned to the Elite Eight for the first time since Gerlach played for the 2009 team. This time, Gerlach helped UIndy defeat New Haven, 3-1, in the Elite Eight to reach the final four for the first time in school history. UIndy won 31 matches for its third 30-win season in school history. Outside hitter Kristina Kerrigan was named AVCA First Team All-American, while setter Meghan Binkerd was Third Team All-American for the NCAA Midwest Regional champions.
Gerlach's second season saw the Greyhounds win their third Great Lakes Valley Conference championship in school history and advance to the final 16 of the NCAA Tournament for the third season in a row. UIndy finished 24-8 and had a pair of All-Americans in outside hitters Kristina Hefferan and Kristina Kerrigan. Gerlach was instrumental in improving their defense and serve receive to become six-rotation outside hitters for the first time in their careers. Junior Amy Oldenburg was a first-year libero in 2011 and finished second in the GLVC with 4.47 digs per set to help UIndy rank third in the conference in opponent hitting percentage (.174).
In her first season, the Greyhounds finished No. 15 in the country with a 27-9 record. The Hounds defeated No. 20 Northern Michigan and host No. 8 Hillsdale in the first two rounds of the NCAA Tournament to reach the NCAA Midwest Region final for the second year in a row. The Greyhounds reached the finals of the Great Lakes Valley Conference Tournament, while she helped Lyndsay Callahan and Cheneta Morrison earn AVCA All-America honors.
A native of Muncie, Ind., Gerlach finished her UIndy volleyball career as the most decorated libero in program history. In addition to helping the Greyhounds to a four-year record 124 victories and their first-ever Elite Eight appearance, the former team captain compiled 2,574 digs in her time at Indianapolis, over 1,000 more than second place in the school annals. She also holds the top three single-season totals in school history, including a record 737 digs her sophomore season.
Gerlach was a three-time all-region performer at libero and was dubbed All-America Third Team by the American Volleyball Coaches Association in 2009. She also received a host of academic awards, including the NCAA Elite 88 Award and the 2009-10 Richard F. Scharf Paragon Award, as well as twice being named the Great Lakes Valley Conference Volleyball Scholar-Athlete of the Year.
A 2010 graduate of UIndy, Gerlach holds a bachelor's in business education. She earned her MBA from UIndy in May of 2012.
The former Kyleigh Turner married Brian Gerlach, who is an athletic trainer for D.C. United, on June 30, 2012.
