RICHMOND, Va. – The field of play and the classroom aren’t the only places VCU Athletics is soaring to new heights.

On the heels of a school year in which the Rams posted the second highest winning percentage in department history, VCU Director of Athletics Ed McLaughlin announced that the Ram Athletic Fund topped $3 million for the first time.

In the last year, the RAF surged by more than $1.1 million to eclipse last year’s previous record mark of $1.9 million. In addition, VCU topped $8 million in overall external revenue for the first time in history, a 33-percent boost from 2011-12.

“Our staff has worked tirelessly and strategically to generate the resources that VCU Athletics needs to provide our student-athletes with the best academic and athletic experience,” McLaughlin said. “Our growing donor and corporate sponsorship bases have really stepped up this year. Because of them, we’re looking forward to a bright future for VCU Athletics."

The Rams’ fiscal gains underscore what has been a memorable 2012-13 season at VCU. During the Fall 2012 Semester, VCU student-athletes posted a cumulative grade point average of better than 3.0 for the first time. Meanwhile, the Rams’ men’s basketball, men’s tennis and men’s soccer squads all cracked the top 25 in their respective national polls. Additionally, four teams received NCAA bids, and the women’s track program boasted a pair of All-Americans.
