Counting down the Top 20 Moments of 2013-14: Coles, Ruffin earn spots at NCAA East Prelims

RICHMOND, Va. – On Friday, August 22, the VCU women’s soccer team will take the field and open up the 2014-15 athletic calendar for #RamNation.

That date is less than two weeks away. With that in mind, is unveiling the top 20 moments from last year to get all of #RamNation ready for yet another exciting year for the Black & Gold.

Yesterday, we unveiled #8 with a new visual identity for VCU Athletics.

Today, a pair of powerful throwers from VCU Track & Field gives us #7.

#7 – Power Pair – Coles, Ruffin earn spot in NCAA East Prelims

VCU Men’s Track & Field history was made this May and juniors Ryan Coles and Brandon Ruffin were the ones behind it.

The power pair both earned spots in the NCAA East Preliminary Round this past spring marking the first time since 2008 that VCU sent multiple male athletes to the NCAA postseason and the first-time ever that VCU had sent male throwers to the postseason.

Ruffin placed 30th with a throw of 17.39m (57' ¾"), while Coles finished 38th at 17.08m (56' ½"). The duo entered the meet ranked 44th and 40th in the East Region, respectively.
